Below you will find instructions for pre and post treatment to ensure the best possible results!

Pre-Treatment Instructions

• No Alcohol consumption for atleast 24 hours prior to treatment.
• Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medication for 1 week prior if possible.  This includes fish oil, Vitamin E, gingko biloba, ginseng, fish oil, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, and other NSAIDS.
• Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinol, Glycolic Acid for 3 days prior.
• Avoid waxing/bleaching/tweezing on the area for 3 days prior.
• If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the injection could contribute to another eruption of a cold sore.  Please inform us of this history.
• Please do not use dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• It is preferred that you arrive with a clean face, no makeup.  To maximize your comfort, we will be using a topical anesthetic for numbing.
• Begin taking Arnica sublingual tablets 3 days prior to help minimize bruising.  It can be purchased at Southern Pharmacy next door or any local pharmacy.

Post-Treatment Instructions

• Immediately after, you may experience redness, bruising, swelling, and itching near the injection site.  Avoid scratching, massaging, or picking around the injection site.
• We will provide you with an ice pack.  Treated area can be iced periodically for 1-2 days. NO heat or heating pads!
• Avoid drinking alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
• Avoid intense heat, tanning beds, sunbathing, hot tubs, saunas, etc until swelling and redness has resolved.
• Tylenol (acetaminophen) may be taken as necessary to reduce any pain.
• Continue taking oral Arnica tablets for atleast 3 days after.  Topical Arnica gel or cream can also be used in addition to help reduce bruising.
• Minimize movement of treated areas.  If you feel a bump at injection site, you may massage.  It is normal for areas to feel firm, and will soften and settle within 1-2 weeks.
• It is recommended that you sleep face-up and head elevated for 3-5 days.

Getting the most of your dermal fillers

• For most patients, the benefits of dermal fillers can be enhanced by using a medical-grade skincare system, such as Obagi Nu-Derm. Medical-grade products containing topical Vitamin C can strengthen the skin and improve laxity and texture. Additionally, use of Tretinoin (Retin-A) helps rebuild cells in the skin’s epidermis (or top layer). Over time, Tretinoin can strengthen skin, improving firmness and resiliency. Tretinoin and other retinoids are available for purchase in our office.  We have retinoids available for all skin types, and sell Obagi and SkinCeuticals products.
• 98% of skin damage (aging, wrinkles, dark spots, and hyper-pigmentation) is caused by sun damage. Wearing sunscreen is critical to maintaining the look and health of your skin. Sunscreen should be re-applied after every 4 hours of sun exposure. We recommend a UVA/UVB broad spectrum SPF 30 minimum.
• It is possible you may need more than one syringe to achieve desired result for some areas.  Once swelling subsides, it is not uncommon for patients to desire more.

How Long Will Dermal Fillers Last?

• The short answer is, of course, it depends – what areas were treated, and with which specific product. Cosmetic fillers are long lasting, but not permanent.
• Shorter term fillers made of hyaluronic acid, like Juvederm and Restylane products, will last anywhere from 6-24 months depending on the areas treated and your bodies metabolism.  Keep in mind that every patient is different.
• Most patients choose to have a follow up treatment 6-12 months after initial treatment for wrinkles. For lip injections or lip enhancements, we recommend a follow up visit after about 6-9 months.
